Easy Home Improvements
You Can Get Done in a Weekend

home selling articles and tips

Completing a home improvement project is always a satisfying feeling. It seems like anything you want to start would take forever, so actually finishing is great. If you have a weekend, then you have plenty of time to complete some of the simple projects that will give your home a new and inviting look. This can help give you the boost you need for bigger projects down the road and keep your house looking great and maintained in the meantime.

Lawn Work
It only takes a few hours to create a lawn that is stunning. Start by mowing the grass. Make sure you cut it to a height that compliments your house and the rest of your yard. Don’t cut the grass too low to the ground, as this will make it look burnt when it’s dry outside. Weed eat around the sidewalk, flower beds, and trees. Take some time to plant new flowers, adding colors that blend with the outside of the home. Large stones are an idea if you want a natural look outdoors, or you can create a patio area with a few chairs and a swing so you have a space to relax. Start simple and see where each weekend takes you and your yard with these simple steps.

Exterior Doors
If you have wooden doors, especially on the front of the home, take them off the hinges, sand all of the old paint off, and paint the door with a new color. Consider using a color that is on the opposite end of the color spectrum than it was, so that you have a completely new look. You can also spend time shopping for a new front door at places like Best Doors. Choose one that has an intricate design instead of one that has a plain appearance to add interest and spark to the exterior.

Shelves

An open shelving system in the kitchen is one of the latest design trends and can actually give you a lot more space. All you need are a few shelves or boards and some paint. When you’re painting the shelves, you want to coat them in a color that stands out from the other decorations in the room. If the overall color is white, then paint the shelves black or a bright color, such as teal or yellow. Place your sets of dishes out here, spices, or other decorations that tend to be hidden in cabinets.

Shoe Stones
When children come inside after playing in the yard, they sometimes have dirt on their shoes. Create a small area beside the front door with pebbles or small rocks so that children can place their shoes in a row when they come indoors. Make a small container for the pebbles with slender pieces of wood or metal.

It doesn’t take long to change a few things in the home. Your family can get involved with home remodeling projects on the weekend so that everyone has a hand in what the house looks like afterward.
